Consolidating student loans is not as tricky as it may seem. You may begin the process of Federal loan consolidation at the Department of Education’s website for Federal Direct Loan Consolidation .
In January of 2012, the U.S. DOE will starting offering what they refer to as Special Direct Consolidation Loans; see eligibility requirements.
Private student loan consolidation companies have basically gone out of business, or better put, the larger banks and lenders have stopped offering private student consolidation loans.
